Marking the end of World War 1

    THE Kilkenny Great War Memorial Committee is to host two events to mark the ending of World War 1.

    The activities are Ireland and Kilkenny Stories and Facts World War 1 exhibition. Then comes Gallopili Irish Stories with Kilkenny Sacrifices, by parish and county. Free admission.

    Start was yesterday, Tuesday and finish is on November 16 in Loughboy Library.

    There is a November Ecumenical Service at St Canice’s Church, Dean Street with the Unity Singers and CBS Primary School Choir.

    There will be poetry and a minute’s silence following which the church bell will toll.

    Start is at 4pm, followed by candlelight procession from the church through the streets of the city to the World War 1 Memorial Peace Park,

    A short aservice of remembrance will include songs, bugle, piper, wreath-laying and extinguishing of memorial flame.

    Over 100 Led candles will be supplied..Please carry a candle to remember your relative or someone who served.

    Memorial part of the event is outdoors so the message is to dress appropriately. Info from 086-3369080.
