IT WAS a chance meeting but it proved to be a wonderful trip down memory lane.

Reporter photographer Donal Foley ambled at what once the location of famous romantic drama Ryan’s Daughter and bumped into Sarah Miles who played Rosy Ryan, wife  of teacher Robert Mirchium.

Much of the movie was shot on location at Dingle Beach. Donal and Sarah were pictured at the shell that was the schoolhouse in the film.

Sarah was in Kerry for a documentary called Ryan’s Daughter Revisited and Donal was thrilled to chat to a warm and friendly woman who is 78 this year.

Other stars included Trevor Howard, John Mills and Christopher Jones.

Donal was in Kerry for a short break and while he won’t figure in the documentary he will have happy members of his meeting with a woman who was a world star in 1970 when the film was released.
