RACEHORSE Trainer Eoin Griffin hosted a successful open day at his picturesque Beacon Hill Stables in Slieverue, South Kilkenny.
Guests enjoyed Griffin’s pristine racing yard where they saw exciting prospects available for sale and enjoyed a proper racehorse owner’s experience at one of the country’s finest facilities.
The modern stables are complemented by top-class facilities including an uphill woodchip gallop, Polytrack surface circular gallop, schooling facilities, a hydraulic walker, turn out paddocks, purpose-built swimming pool, cold water hydrotherapy unit, wash bays and weighing facilities.
Visitors watched horses exercising on the gallops before feedback from this season’s leading National Hunt Jockey, Rachael Blackmore.
Then came a swimming demo. Regular swimming in a dedicated pool and trips to nature’s finest saltwater option at nearby Woodstown Beach are of benefit to horses in training.
Patrons also saw a scope procedure by vet Shane Ryan, a routine that checks a horse’s upper respiratory tract to ensure the animal doesn’t have anything unusual present that might affect their general well-being and capability of running a race.
Exciting prospects for the season ahead seen by guests included Castletown Quarry, a five year old gelding that won a point-to-point last March and was purchased at Goffs Aintree Sale.
