THE Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) participants celebrated their end of year awards in Hotel Kilkenny.
MC was Geraldine Moran who welcomed all participants and special guests Martha Bolger, FET Director, Regina Bracken, Training Officer with FIT and Bernadette O’Rourke, Adult Education Officer with Kilkenny & Carlow Educational Training Board (ETB).
Geraldine thanked the ETB for their support for the VTOS programme through its adult education service.
She thanked all teachers who supported the participants on their educational journey. Their passion and inspiration was greatly acknowledged.
A wide range of participants spoke with great enthusiasm about their experience in VTOS over the last academic year.
All lauded the centre for its excellence in teaching and learning. They felt they were encouraged and inspired to reach their full potential.
They praised their teachers who encouraged and at times challenged them.
Slideshows were presented of the three exhibitions during May and June and participants also displayed their own websites created during the QQI Level 5 Web Authoring class. All work was of an exceptionally high standard.
This was followed by a French Sketch that provided much entertainment. IT and Accounting teacher at VTOS, Fiona Phelan was presented with a City & Guilds Gold Medal for Excellence.
Her excellence has been acknowledged by City & Guilds as she has displayed outstanding achievement in her knowledge and expertise.
This is the fifth gold medal awarded to VTOS Kilkenny over the years following on from her colleague Donal Costigan IT Teacher at VTOS and three past participants Anthony Ryan, Iris Agar and Mary O’Driscoll.
A presentation was made to Patricia O’Connor to mark her retirement from VTOS after over 20 years’ service.
Geraldine Moran VTOS Co-ordinator thanked Patricia for her outstanding and impeccable service. Patricia had 100% attendance and was a conscientious and diligent worker who instilled her love of the French Language in all her participants.
Geraldine described Patricia as a most co-operative and flexible teacher who was trustworthy and discreet with an admirable sense of honesty. She wished her a long and happy retirement.
Participants of the Year were presented with certificates by Bernadette O’Rourke, Adult Education Officer.
Bernadette congratulated all participants on their exceptional achievements. She wished them much success and encouraged them to keep in contact with VTOS and the guidance service.
Martha Bolger congratulated the centre on an excellent year’s work, a year filled with many highlights a memorable one.
Regina Bracken, Training and Employment Officer with FIT said it was a pleasure to work with VTOS Kilkenny.
She expressed her delight with the centre’s success and looks forward to working closely with the centre in the next academic year.
Geraldine thanked Paula Hart for her support in guidance and welcomed Orla Reddy, Guidance
Co-ordinator, who has joined the Further Education team in Kilkenny.
She thanked Charlotte Beattie for her administrative support, Sean Lawless for his IT support and organisation of the event and Donal Costigan for his IT support and photography.
The ceremony was followed by lunch at Hotel Kilkenny.
