Burger champ is a tummy tickler

Cheers to a champ: Co-owner of The Hungry Moose Chris Telford with manager Eimear Jacob

By Jimmy Rhatigan

AS OUR hurlers prepare to do battle for Leinster Final glory, our local burger heroes are already celebrating an All-Ireland title.

Who loves you baby could well be question?

Everyone would be the apt answer.

For, although barely only seven months old, our local Gourmet Burger House, The Hungry Moose at 60 John Street has just been crowned King of Ireland.

A Big Daddy Burger to celebrate Father’s Day proved to be a cuisine delight for the dads of Ireland, mums too and their offspring as it gobbled up over 500 competitors to grab the No. 1 spot in a national competition, organized by Kepak and sponsored by Coca Cola, Tour America, Dubliner Cheese and Heinz.

It was a fantastic victory for two friends, co-owners, sons of Britain, Chris Telford and Andy Brown who are as happy as Larry, whoever he is and have made their homes here.

Both of their families have children in Bennettsbridge National School. Chris and Andy also worked together at the Mount Juliet Hotel and Resort in Thomastown where Chris ran a café catering for golfers and Andy was a management accountant.

Over 17,000 online voters, burger aficionados one and all, showed good taste as they gave the thumbs up in a public vote to a burger that won hearts and minds and tickled tummies too.

For the record that meaty champ is a chuck, brisket and short rib beef patty. The Hungry Moose Burger is served with smoked bacon, dill pickles, dressed with beer battered onion rings, aged Canadian Moose Cheddar and organic maple barbecue sauce.

The burger beauty sells for €14.95 with a choice of skinny fries, triple cooked chips or sweet potato fries.

The Hungry Moose Menu also includes fish, chicken, vegan and vegetarian burgers.

Burger prices locally range from €18 to €10 and while our burger enjoys champion status it is still available at a knockout price.

The Moose is open seven days a week, 12 noon to 9.30pm from Sunday to Thursday and noon to 10pm on Friday and Saturday.

Satisfaction is the name of the game as a staff of eight enjoys serving the best of burger brilliance to discerning customers who obviously know their palate pleasers.

At your service are manager Eimear Jacob, Emma Ryan, Conor Skehan, Amdeo Rasched, Thomas Nikter, Monika, Michalska, Rachel Dwyer and Eoghan Dunne.
