Council gets 50 years of brilliance

The unique collection which records over fifty years of Tom Brett's photojournalism will be preserved by Kilkenny County Council and Kilkenny Archives for the benefit of present and future generations of people in Kilkenny city and county. During his long career Tom photographed all major news, business, social, sports and political events which occoured in this area. His unique achievement with being presented with an honorary membership of both the Press Photogaraphers Asssociation of Ireland and the Profesional Photographers Association of Ireland - having being elected to serve on the national council of both bodies.He was also awarded life membership of the National Union of Journalists in which he served as negotiator for the Irish Executive Council and the Freelance Industrial Council. Tom is hoping that agreement can be reached on the future of his extensive sports collection - including hurling, Gaelic games, golf, horse racing, soccer, tennis, camogie etc. Photo Thomas Brett
