    THE Dirty Dozen have cousins in Danesfort.

    The Clean Dozen, also known as the parents’ group organizing a coming school marathon, declared war on litter as they launched an inaugural run.

    A Mile Marker Run on June 17 starts with an 11am family run and there are options of five and ten-mile events.

    The 12 committee members are looking forward to what they believe will be a great occasion and they already have the local course from St Michael’s National School, Kells Road, Grovine, to the Waterford Road. in spick and span condition.

    Armed with gloves, litter pickers and sweeping brushes and dressed in high vis safety gear, a team of some 20 men and women, with the help of willing school pupils, combed the route, picking up 15 sacks of rubbish.

    On the clean-up evening, they also launched the run which is aimed at attracting local and visiting athletes along with families in the area.

    The organisers are delighted to have the backing of local business Philip Ireland Tyres as their main sponsor.
