THE Ladies League of Ireland game between Kilkenny United and UCD Waves kicked off at a sunny Watershed.
Both teams created early chances. UCD took the lead in the 26th minute when the ball was deflected past Megan Butlerl.
Avril Brierly made it 2-0, three minutes later. Kilkenny kept on the attack and nearly scored when Nicole Plunkett saw her shot saved by Erica Turner.
Carla McManus also close. Niamh Kelly thought she had pulled one back in the 35th minute but it was ruled out for offside.
Leeann Payne made it 3-0 in the 42nd minute against her old club and things went from bad to worse for Kilkenny before half time when Avril Brierly got her second and UCD’s fourth.
Kilkenny started the second half stronger and created a few chances but all came to nothing as the UCD defence was to strong.
Avril Brierly grabbed her hat-trick after the hour. Kim Waters went close to a goal but her shot was well defended by Aisling Dunbar.
Leeann Payne punished her old club again in the 63rd minute when she got her second to make it 6-0. Kilkenny kept fighting and were rewarded with a goal on the 90th minute when Carla McManus broke through the UCD defence to slot the ball past Erica Turner.
