Appetite for poems and buns

KILKENNY County Library Service looks forward to celebrating Poetry Day Ireland tomorrow.

A party of poetry and all things poetic, the day offers people the chance to discover, enjoy and share poems.

Following from the success of last years’ event, Poems & Afternoon Tea and Buns will be held in Castlecomer Library on Poetry Day Ireland from 3.30pm.

Poetry lovers are invited to read a poem they love and explain why it means so much to them over a delightful afternoon tea.

Very much a social event, and a chance to enjoy some poetic surprises on the day in a relaxed social setting.

On Thursday, Ferrybank Library will also announce the winners of their Junior Poetry Competition, where 1st-6th class students have submitted poems on the theme of Storm Emma. Almost 50 entries were received, and will be on display in the library.

”We are very excited to be involved in Poetry Day again this year, and we always find there is a huge appetite for poetry events in Kilkenny,” said Aisling Kelly, Assistant Librarian.

“This year’s theme of surprises allows us to reignite memories of treasured poems and to reveal brand new poems written by children from Kilkenny.”
