BIG numbers of people from all over the South East dug deep into their hearts and their pockets to help a local woman get specialist treatment for illness in the US.
Friday’s walk for Mooncoin woman, Vicky Phelan who is due to fly to the United States for cancer support was a huge success, beyond even the wildest dreams of passionate neighbours and friends who organised a sponsored midnight amble.
Tracy Driscoll who, along with her mother, Kathleen was the driving force behind the community support event said their estimates varied from amounts starting at €10,000 right up to €15,000.
“To date we have gone way past the top figure and there are still sponsorship cards to be returned. The generosity of people and their commitment to a great cause is absolutely spectacular. We are so grateful to everyone.”
The last count put the walk fund at €24,218, a fantastic boost for Vicky and her family before she jets across the Atlantic for life-saving care.
“We are delighted with the response and Vicky and her family are really appreciative,” Tracy told The Reporter
