LAST MARCH, following the first Streets of Kilkenny 5k, The Reporter heralded our city centre route as an iconic venue that could stage international athletic events.
The second race, promoted by Kilkenny City Harriers, strengthened the belief that we have another priceless gem in our collection.
Thursday’s race was another fantastic success, attracting a super field of local runners, with a good turnout from all over our country.
A resounding vote of confidence came from all athletes who delighted in doing battle on a challenging course, an amphitheatre of beauty with a natural viewing stand on our new St Francis Bridge.
The figures tell their own store.
There were 700 entries, 600 started and over 1,000 enjoyed every minute of what turned out to be a super event with a pulsating finish.
