INISTIOGE village came out in force to support their nomination to compete in the international Entente Florale competition.
A big crowd gathered in the local community centre to meet and greet competition mentors Eamonn De Stafort and Dr Christy Boylan who outlined the competition criteria and provided tips on how to prepare for adjudication day.
Both mentors had a wealth of experience to share on how to succeed in the competition as they were national tidy town adjudicators and international judges for the Entente Florale.
Their presentations stressed the importance of a whole village involvement as evidence of community effort was just as important as the village’s presentation on adjudication day.
On July 20, nine international judges will tour the village for four hours. During their adjudication visit they expect to experience village life and it will be an opportunity to showcase local talents and crafts.
Colette Byrne, CEO Kilkenny County Council wished the village success and pledged council support to assist the community in getting the village ready.
A council internal cross departmental committee was formulated to assist with different aspects of the competition.
Frank Sullivan, Chairman Inistioge Tidy Towns thanked those who attended as it reflected local interest in the competition and by high numbers of volunteer registrations showed that everyone was willing to row in as the village aimed to win gold.
