Paddy Brennan shows off his coveted award

THE public relations officer of the of the Laois, Kilkenny, Carlow Boxing Board, Ollie O’Neill paid tribute to Paddy Brennan on being awarded an Irish Amateur Boxing Association award for all his work for the sport.

Paddy has joined Noel Kehoe of Marble City Boxing Club and Callan Head Coach, Jimmy Walsh who were also honoured for their huge contributions to boxing.

Ollie said the three men had been the life of boxing in their clubs and county for years.

Paddy moved to England at the age of 14 and started boxing in Hanwell Boxing Club aged 19. He won local competitions but didn’t get medals as the prizes were vouchers and tea sets.

When he returned to Ireland he started the Sacred Heart Boxing Club in Moneenroe and for years turned out county, Leinster and All-Ireland champs.

He later started Sacred Heart Boxing Club, Tolerton. He is still turning out champions and his boxers travel to America, Canada, Wales, Scotland, England, Poland and Latvia.

He continues to do a brilliant job with the young fighters of Tolerton and hinterland.
