IT IS not in the least surprising that almost 1,000 tickets have already been sold for what promises to be a rip roaring and superbly entertaining fund-raising night in aid of James Stephens GAA Club.
Aptly named The James Stephens Lip Sync Battle, the January 27 show at Lyrath Estate Hotel will bring a night of mime, colourful singing of hits with some of the finest entertainers of our time.
And, wait for it, as well as enjoying a string of popular songs that will entwine several generations, the audience will also be treated to fantastic solo singers and several sensational world famous bands.
Globally popular Queen will be there, perhaps not in body and mind but certainly in spirit as any one or more of their super hits could be unleashed.
Take your pick from Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, Don’t Stop Me Now, I Want to Break Free, We Are the Champions, Another One Bites the Dust and Radio Ga Ga.
A full house will be treated to Garry Moore’s Twist and Shout, a tribute to Little Richard. Also making a guest appearance will be Miley Cyrus of Wrecking Ball fame.
And there will be more, much more as St Luke’s General Hospital porter, Billy Ryan brings us Tina Turner and painting contractor Tony Scanlon of Scanlon Brothers brings us to Greece to meet songwriter, entrepreneur, actress and activist, Olivia Newton-John.
At Nowlan Park GAA Grounds many moons ago, the cry from basket-bearing purveyors used to be for the last few apples, pears, bananas and chocolate.
Even at this comparatively early stage, the reality is that the Stephens organisers are down to the last few tickets for what many believe will be the show of 2018.
The message is to act immediately, get in touch with James Stephens GAA Club, Larchfield, Eamonn Tyrrell on 087-9506066 or Tony Scanlon 087-2622321.
Tickets for the show which is generously sponsored by Jennifer McCreery of McCreery Contract Cleaning, Kilkenny are on sale at €20 each.
A €500 voucher from Manning Travel, High Street, Kilkenny is one of many fabulous prizes in a €5 raffle on the night and there will be at least 60 spot prizes.
What we might term with respect, a curtain raiser to the big Lip Sync Battle will be the Cork v Kilkenny National Hurling League game which will be shown on a giant screen at Lyrath Estate Hotel from 7pm.
Immediately after the final whistle an enthusiastic cast of some 40 entertainers, a mix of male and female, will tog out for their 8.30pm date with, judging by early ticket sales, what will be an enthusiastic audience.
